Our Therapists

Masako Guthrie

Masako Guthrie, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner

We all have the ability to heal ourselves. This is my deep belief and the foundation of my psychotherapy practice. Working together with my clients in the here and now, I provide a safe place for you to gain insight, understanding, and concrete tools to attain your goals. I use methods suited to the individual needs of each client so that a holistic experience of cognitive understanding, emotional expression, and somatic (body) awareness is possible. My training includes Hakomi Mind/Body Psychotherapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, Energy Psychology (EFT), Self Psychology, Depth Oriented Brief Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Play Therapy, Humanistic, Relational, and Existential theories. I am a graduate of John F. Kennedy University with a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I am a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner for trauma resolution. My clients include individuals, couples, families, children, trauma survivors and people with cross cultural and immigrant issues. I am one of three founding members of Kensho Center in Berkeley. Kensho is a Japanese term meaning the experience of seeing into one's true nature and realizing what is essential to life.

Diana Shapiro

Diana Shapiro, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

I believe that with the right attitudes, we can heal ourselves and each other. In therapy, we become aware of the interplay of our thoughts, feelings and behavior so that we can make more conscious choices. This is done in the context of a respectful, empathic, and trustworthy relationship. I have several years of counseling experience as well as experience in a variety of therapeutic modalities, such as Humanistic (emphasizes the importance of the empathic relationship), Cognitive-Behavioral (emphasizes examining and changing thoughts, feelings and behavior), Relational (uses the therapy relationship to heal wounds that occurred in previous relationships), EMDR and Sensorimotor psychotherapy (both body-oriented therapies for healing trauma). For more about my approach to psychotherapy, click here.

On a personal note, I am an openly GLBT therapist. I am also a practicing Buddhist and Jewish, by origin. I respect all religions and also respect those who choose secular lives. I also have life experience with chronic illness/pain and I enjoy working with people living with these challenges, both individually and in groups. For a more detailed biography, click here.

Linda Haraguchi

Linda Haraguchi, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

I am a Filipina-American woman with a deep devotion to supporting people in their growth and healing. I am also dedicated to multiculturalism, to social justice and social change, and to my extended family. I grew up in Oakland, California. After high school, I began working for the telephone company and stayed there for many years, until I was offered an early retirement. I took this opportunity to go back to school and earn my Bachelors degree from UC Berkeley, graduating in the same class as my younger son. I went on to complete my Master's degree in Marriage and Family therapy at John F. Kennedy University's School of Holistic Studies in 2002. I am a somatic psychotherapist, with two years of comprehensive training in the Hakomi method. As a somatic therapist, I facilitate growth in my clients that is not only on the level of thoughts and feelings, but also rooted deeply in body feeling. I have found that healing on this level is a very profound and often long-lasting experience for my clients. I work with individual adults, couples, children and families.

In addition to my work as a therapist, I am a mother and a grandmother, an activist, and a free spirit.
